Is Martial Law coming?
Oh for the love of the Banana Cupcakes:
Bush Moves Toward Martial Law
by repost Saturday, Oct. 28, 2006 at 2:39 AM
In a stealth maneuver, President Bush has signed into law a provision which, according to Senator Patrick Leahy (D-Vermont), will actually encourage the President to declare federal martial law (1). It does so by revising the Insurrection Act, a set of laws that limits the President's ability to deploy troops within the United States. The Insurrection Act (10 U.S.C.331 -335) has historically, along with the Posse Comitatus Act (18 U.S.C.1385), helped to enforce strict prohibitions on military involvement in domestic law enforcement. With one cloaked swipe of his pen, Bush is seeking to undo those prohibitions.
Public Law 109-364, or the "John Warner Defense Authorization Act of 2007" (H.R.5122) (2), which was signed by the commander in chief on October 17th, 2006, in a private Oval Office ceremony, allows the President to declare a "public emergency" and station troops anywhere in America and take control of state-based National Guard units without the consent of the governor or local authorities, in order to "suppress public disorder."
President Bush seized this unprecedented power on the very same day that he signed the equally odious Military Commissions Act of 2006. In a sense, the two laws complement one another. One allows for torture and detention abroad, while the other seeks to enforce acquiescence at home, preparing to order the military onto the streets of America. Remember, the term for putting an area under military law enforcement control is precise; the term is "martial law."
Section 1076 of the massive Authorization Act, which grants the Pentagon another $500-plus-billion for its ill-advised adventures, is entitled, "Use of the Armed Forces in Major Public Emergencies." Section 333, "Major public emergencies; interference with State and Federal law" states that "the President may employ the armed forces, including the National Guard in Federal service, to restore public order and enforce the laws of the United States when, as a result of a natural disaster, epidemic, or other serious public health emergency, terrorist attack or incident, or other condition in any State or possession of the United States, the President determines that domestic violence has occurred to such an extent that the constituted authorities of the State or possession are incapable of ("refuse" or "fail" in) maintaining public order, "in order to suppress, in any State, any insurrection, domestic violence, unlawful combination, or conspiracy."
For the current President, "enforcement of the laws to restore public order" means to commandeer guardsmen from any state, over the objections of local governmental, military and local police entities; ship them off to another state; conscript them in a law enforcement mode; and set them loose against "disorderly" citizenry - protesters, possibly, or those who object to forced vaccinations and quarantines in the event of a bio-terror event.
The most important election of our lifetime is coming up in less than a week, so will this madman create a situation which will put our nation in peril so he can declare a national emergency to enforce Martial Law and the elections won't happen?

Kay, I fear it might, the changes to habeas corpus and the posse comitatus acts, allow the Idiot to suspend the civil rights on HIS whims and force the National Guard to enforce his delusional idea of being the "national decider"...we have a historical perspective to compare this with, the acts where the Nazi party disassembled the democracy in Germany and the SA troops who did the dirty deeds, and after the Reichstag fire, the rise of the SS and Gestapo to keep all "good citizens" in line and the concentration camps for those who refused.
We have Haliburton with a contract to build similar camps.
We have the repug congress doing the deconstruction of the US constitution and the rights it secures for the citizenry.
We have the Fox Lies and reichwing radio pulling a Goebbels, and the MSM playing stupid about it all.
After the election there are several scenarios that could play out.
1. The final attack in Iraq to control the country is almost certain.
This attack will be very similar to what happened in Fallugha after the 2004 election. Ramadi is definitely on the list, but Baghdad is central to the US strategy of controlling the country until Maliki can "stand up" inside the green zone. The wild card in this scenario is what the Shiites who want the US out do in and around Basra, where all logistical supplies for US troops and their war effort come thru.
Attacks here will have to be put down immediately and the 7000 troops the British have there are not enough to do that.
2. Here in the US an economic down turn is in the works, and if the rest of the world really gets serious about dumping the dollar they hold as reserves because it is losing value thus they are losing real wealth as the dollar's value falls, it could turn a recession into a very bad depression here in the US. The rest of the world might even be able to build a "fire wall" around the US depression, and only suffer a severe recession until they economies to exchange among themselves. China Europe, India, Brazil Russia, and the OPEC countries could restructure a world economy where the US does not play the leading role it has for the last 65 years in Economic terms. this would have dire consequences for political leaders here at home. Bush would be forced to respond to this situation and have to try to prop up OUR economy but if NOBODY loans America money what could he do?
This is when the NEW powers he has acquired come into play. The civil unrest of the sever economic situation could lead to mass arrests of the demonstrators, and those who are unemployed would simply be hauled off to the Haliburton camps for holding as “enemies of the state”. Given the US army has a set of rules for using Civilian Inmates ; Army Regulation 210–35 titled Civilian Inmate Labor Program. This program allows the Pentagon to force prisoners in US custody to work for the army. This is frightening because with tens of thousands of new workers, Bush ET AL could restructure how it equips the Military and create a state very similar to the state in Germany during WW2 where civilian labor was forced to produced goods for it’s military machine. With this they could quickly restructure the Military, even going so far as giving the right people a chance of getting out of prison by joining the military. A sort of draft by arrest, which would mean anybody who steps out of line would either be forced to produce goods for the military to use in war time, or worse go and fight George Bush’s wars of aggression.
And with “National Emergency” Bush could cancel any future elections until the “Emergency” was over. Thus stopping any chance of the voters to stop him at the polls even with Diebold and repug dirty tricks. He would actually have enough power to scrap the constitution if he gets to this stage. With the Federal Government stepping in and arresting any dissent, and all the national Guard soldiers federalized, it would be interesting what would happen when those federalized soldiers came into conflict with state and local law enforcement. If the locals accepted the Bush moves, the country we knew and loved would be finished.
Killed not by Osama Bin Laden, but George Bush. He would still wave the Flag, in fact everybody would wave the flag, because those who did not would become suspects quickly, and we as citizens do learn quick. Bush style repug patriotism would almost be mandatory. The press would be reduced to a propaganda arm of the Government as Fox is right now. In fact most “news shows” would become FOX LIES clones, and any published dissent would result in both the authors and publishers getting time for “violations of insurrection”.
The future generations would no longer listen to John Lennon sing “Imagine “, or watch South Park. Shows like the daily show would be forbidden and the history books would be rewritten by the likes if Anny Tranny. and Rush Limpballs.. The brain dead TV of soap operas and reality shows would continue with a reichwing political bent. Sports would continue with the same bent. NASCAR would be sponsored by the DOD and defense contractors. Most changes would be in line with the reichwing Christ ignoring”Christians”. Church attendance would sky rocket, because those who did not attend would fall under the same suspicions as those who did not wave the flag, or praise Bush right.
McCarthy style witch hunts would rage through out the society, with people going back through different forms of the media to ferret out disloyal Americans to be locked away. Blogs would be screened for who said what and those found wanting in their expressed opinions would be arrested as enemies of the state. That is why they want to collect all Internet traffic. What we write today with our first amendment rights would be used against us when those right no longer existed. Pictures of protesters would be used as proof of thief guilt of crimes against the state, even if it was anti logging protesters or anti G-8* protesters in Seattle years ago. People who protested the Invasion of Iraq would be rounded up, anti George Bush protesters of the last 6 years would be hauled in the same. That is where they would start to get their workers and “volunteers” for military service.
3. Bush needs a “new” incident to begin the process, and a war with Iran could be what he is looking for. With the three Navy task forces off the coast of Iran, and both sides engaging in separate “war games” the possibility of a accidental action against the other is not small. Once the weapons began firing who started it would not matter as much as who wins. The war with Iran, and world reaction could be seized by Bush as a requirement for him to enact his powers to defend the US. Once that begins, the election this November would be MOOT, because Bush would have the powers to silence dissent in congress or arrest those who spoke out against his actions.
An “new” terrorist attack could be used by Bush to begin clamping down and combined with attacks on Iran to put the country on a similar war footing as WW2 produced but with policies McCarthy would enact. With all they have done already combined with the new laws they would enact in such a scenario, America the home of the free would slip away to the dust bin of history. The rest of the world would definitely notice it's demise, we would not be allowed to. Because noticing that America was not longer the "shining city on the hill" would be declared unpatriotic. And truth and reality would be what ever the Decider said it was. Who you gonna believe, your lying eyes, or the decider our "fearless dear leader".
4. If the repugs actually have Diebold programmed to "steal" voted for repugs, and the voters call them on it, Bush would need these powers to put down the civil unrest here, after all Mexico just went through a similar election where the left candidate feels the election was stolen and they supporters had staged a series of month long civil actions.
The same could happen here if the election goes against the wishes of the voters, and enough people protest. This reaction to November 7th would be taking place at the same time as the post election military actions were. Combine this with a "new terrorist attack" and you have the ingredients of Martial Law. Everything I said above about the economic reactions also will at some time come into play. However with martial law, Bush could get his wish and disassemble all the Great Society and New Deal legislation, and return America to the state it was in the 1920, with a government which only worries about the military and Big Business. And the citizenry would be reduced to cogs in the corporate state, or prisoners who serve the pentagon. It would be a state where if you mindlessly went to work and watched American Idol, and never complained your life would not change. Those who wanted the country and their lives to be MORE than that, it would be changes of tremendous significance. Those people would be the ones Homeland Security would compile a list for local law enforcement keep watch of. People who had made any noise of national significance against Bush for the last 6 years would be the Feds issue, local activists would be dealt with be local law enforcement, and turned over to the feds for imprisonment when they stepped out of line.
Bush ET AL have worked for years to get these powers to force the country to return economically to the days before the New Deal, and have the culture return to the white bread days fo the 1950's. They are close, if they can create the right conditions where martial law is required they will have won, because once Bush has THOSE powers he will never give them up. In fact this might be the reason he is NOT worried about this election. He knows what the real plan for it and the aftermath in November and December is. Thus the election is just a reason to go around the country and lie to hand picked supporters who want him to lie to them. Before he enacts the program Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld have envisioned since they were forced by the US congress to accept limits on presidential powers. They want a president who can ignore the law and give corporate America what ever it wants for it ever expanding greed campaign.
It will be interesting how close you are to the truth Clif. We shall find out.
A military coup of Maliki's Iraq government coming courtesy of the Bush Pigs who don't like Maliki's stance against American troops right now? Could be.
An attack on Iran (we have quite a few subs/ships ready to launch in the Persian Gulf)? Could be.
He'll drop a nuclear bomb on our country? Could be.
Whatever our Satan does will be Evil. Satan is always Evil.
The End.
What?s coming
When all fascisms exhibit the same social and political agendas (the 14 points listed by Britt), then it is not hard to predict where a new fascist uprising will lead. And it is not hard. The actions of fascists and the social and political effects of fascism and fundamentalism are clear and sobering. Here is some of whats coming, what will be happening in our country in the next few years:
The theft of all social security funds, to be transferred to those who control money, and the increasing destitution of all those dependent on social security and social welfare programs.
Rising numbers of uninsured people in this country that already has the highest percentage of citizens without health insurance in the developed world.
Increased loss of funding for public education combined with increased support for vouchers, urging Americans to entrust their children?s education to Christian schools.
More restrictions on civil liberties as America is turned into the police state necessary for fascism to work
Withdrawal of virtually all funding for National Public Radio and the Public Broadcasting System. At their best, these media sometimes encourage critical questioning, so they are correctly seen as enemies of the state?s official stories.
The reinstatement of a draft, from which the children of privileged parents will again be mostly exempt, leaving our poorest children to fight and die in wars of imperialism and greed that could never benefit them anyway. (That was my one-sentence Veterans? Day sermon for this year.)
More imperialistic invasions: of Iran and others, and the construction of a huge permanent embassy in Iraq.
More restrictions on speech, under the flag of national security.
Control of the internet to remove or cripple it as an instrument of free communication that is exempt from government control. This will be presented as a necessary anti-terrorist measure.
Efforts to remove the tax-exempt status of churches like this one, and to characterize them as anti-American.
Tighter control of the editorial bias of almost all media, and demonization of the few media they are unable to control ? the New York Times, for instance.
Continued outsourcing of jobs, including more white-collar jobs, to produce greater profits for those who control the money and direct the society, while simultaneously reducing America?s workers to a more desperate and powerless status.
Moves in the banking industry to make it impossible for an increasing number of Americans to own their homes. As they did in the 1930s, those who control the money know that it is to their advantage and profit to keep others renting rather than owning.
Criminalization of those who protest, as un-American, with arrests, detentions and harassment increasing. We already have a higher percentage of our citizens in prison than any other country in the world. That percentage will increase.
In the near future, it will be illegal or at least dangerous to say the things I have said here this morning. In the fascist story, these things are un-American. In the real history of a democratic America, they were seen as profoundly patriotic, as the kind of critical questions that kept the American spirit alive ? the kind of questions, incidentally, that our media were supposed to be pressing.

Harry S Truman, August 8, 1950 : "Once a government is committed to the principle of silencing the voice of opposition, it has only one way to go, and that is down the path of increasingly repressive measures, until it becomes a source of terror to all its citizens and creates a country where everyone lives in fear."

Bush and Hitler:
Is History Repeating Itself?
by Cheryl Seal
Democrats.com, July, 2001
No one expected Hitler to rise to power. He had failed at just about everything he had even undertaken until he discovered politics. In the world of spin and power plays, a superficial gift of gab and bullish determination could replace intelligence and idealism without missing a beat. Hitler found that the path to the top was short: Just tell a discontent people what they want to hear and make promises you have no intention to keep.
In Hitlers first radio speech after becoming Chancellor on January 30, 1933, he pledged [this is a direct quote from that address] "to revive in the nation the spirit of unity and cooperation" and invoked Gods blessing on the German government. (Hitler was a fervent Christian until his egomania superceded faith in a "higher power" - a fact too many have either forgotten or never knew, thanks to sanitized school history books). But, the Fuhrer soon proved he had no intention of being a uniter. The Nazis' battle cry throughout their campaign had been "down with the liberals!" Once in office, Hitler made "liberals" (a mass group into which he lumped social democrats, gays, Jews, and any threat to Hitler's model of Christian society) his sworn enemies.
As soon as he was in office, Hitler began ramming through one action after the other in rapid, aggressive succession. His sidekick Goebbels, head of propaganda and undoubtedly the bulk of the diabolical brains behind the operation, gleefully wrote in his diary: "The struggle is a light one now as we are able to employ all the means of the state [which included the judiciary]". In addition, he noted, "Radio and press are at our disposal."
Hitler believed that to consolidate his power, he needed to create an "enemy of the state." Contrary to popular belief, the first "enemy" Hitler formally targeted was not the Jews but the Communist Party. Why? Because they were the most outspoken activists against his regime. Hitler was thus the first to invoke the spectre of "the Red Menace." He intentionally sought to provoke party activists to violent protest so, under his new aggressive laws suppressing public dissent; he could round them up and arrest them. Aware of this ploy, the Communists laid fairly low for a time, believing that Hitler was merely a puppet of reactionaries and his regime would not last.
But the Fuhrer, becoming progressively more drunk with his new power, was not so easily thwarted. To facilitate his demonization of the "Reds," he sent provocateurs to orchestrate a staged act of "terrorism." Their dupe was a young revolutionary named Van der Lubbe, who was implicated in (i.e. framed for) the bombing of the Reichstag (the equivalent of the Congressional building).
This incident gave Hitler the excuse he needed for "cracking down" on "enemies of the state." He rallied the Germans against the "terrorists" and passed the odious "Enabling Acts," in which the government was granted the right to bypass any due process for "suspects." One human right after the other was revoked: the Jews were stripped of all rights, trade unions were broken, and rival parties were made illegal. In addition, Hitler began to isolate Germany from the rest of the world: One of his first actions after assuming power was to withdraw from the League of Nations.
From the start, Hitler courted the conservative Christian clergy. To their shame, historically, many clergymen became his closest allies and most effective tools, as propagandists, spies, and suppressors of dissent. The clergys most important role in the beginning, was to fuel anti-liberalism and anti-Semitism. Jews, according to Hitler, were "the source of every ill that had befallen Germany and of every continuing threat." [Substitute the word "liberal" and you have the new GOPs main party philosophy]. Historian John Weis pointed out that "Hitler inspired only those who shared his anger."
Hitler made public dissent first all but impossible, then illegal. At first, whenever groups tried to voice a protest during a public speech, he would have storm troopers clear the dissenters from the hall. Hitler also made sure that the media did not give provide the public with any coverage of dissenters or public protests because it was "encouraging of destructive elements." [Recently when I asked a reporter at the Associated Press why protests are not being covered, he said reporters are instructed not to because to do so "would be encouraging of destructive displays."]. So, what the media faithfully recorded was Hitler and Hitler supporters. To see an old German newsreel, youd never guess there were plenty of dissenters around - at least until they were all shot or sent to concentration camps.
Hitler was very fond of photo ops. He believed they were his best form of PR and pounced on them at every opportunity. The files abound with shots of Hitler with bright-faced Germany families; he especially liked being photographed with school children. At the same time, Hitler actively promoted "family values" and high moral standards. He believed women should go back to being at home with their families and not in the work force. He also believed there should be little or no separation between the state and his brand of Christianity, especially since he firmly believed that the emotional fervor of religion could be used to effectively to promote the states objectives.
Under Hitler, worker protections were dismantled, one by one. Soon workers were laboring for longer hours for less pay. Worse yet, all trade unions had been smashed, so there was no recourse. Unfortunately, the Social Democrats were not organized and did not offer a solid front for opposing Hitler and his initiatives. Soon, they found themselves overwhelmed by a highly organized, aggressive and fanatically single-minded army of Nazi Party appointees who did whatever Hitler told them to do without questioning. Here we end the story, because we all know what happens next: the Holocaust and World War II.
STALIN AND BUSH'S CONSERVATIVE REFORM MOVEMENT: A Pattern of Despotism?
Joseph Stalin was successful in seizing and retaining power primarily because he was able to stack the Politburo with politicians as extreme as himself and to dictate their actions and their votes on every issue. Party dissenters were harassed mercilessly by the Politburo members who remained blindly loyal to Stalin. With a block of supporters who did not think for themselves, Stalin was able to completely reverse Russias policy on a number of key issues, right across the board. For example, in 1936, he completely reversed the liberal communist doctrines pertaining to family, divorce, and abortion. He made divorce difficult, made abortion illegal, and stressed "family values" [do we see a "dictator pattern" here?].
Stalin's propagandists used a three-point strategy to convince the Russian people that things in Stalin's policy that were in fact extremely bad for the country (including the systematic round up and extermination of all "enemies of the state") were in fact "good."
Point One: Create arguments that how the negative thing is actually NOT bad, but is actually good. [Present day ex: convincing people that greenhouse gases will give us lush green plants, not fry the planet].
Point Two: Show how the negative thing is actually not true. [Present-day ex: Global warming does not exist].
Point Three: Show that the negative thing is actually being caused by "enemies of the state" - most likely liberals. [Present-day example: We can't sign Kyoto because it is really a plot to ruin our economy].
THE GOP OF 1936 AND TODAY'S DIRTY POLITICS: How the Former Gave Birth to the Latter
Meanwhile, back in the U.S., FDR was attempting to guide the nation safely through the depression. The outrageous treatment of American workers throughout the industrial era up until that point by the corporate "bosses" had become a major issue. Men and women worked 12-14 hours a day, had no unemployment benefits, no health insurance, no safety regulations - no job security whatsoever. In response to this sorry state of affairs, labor unions were forming, but they were being met with brutal resistance by the Bosses and their henchmen. Because FDR championed the workers cause and called for all manner of reforms - including the social security system - he was identified as "the enemy" of the bosses. The Republican Party, the attack dog of big business even then, was turned loose on the President with a vengeance. His every step was "dogged."
Just as corporate America saw FDR as an enemy, many of them, including IBM and G.W. Bushs grandfather, saw in Hitler a friend and treated this vicious genocidal maniac with far more respect and deference than they did FDR.
The GOP was to learn many of its nastiest tactics from Hitler and Goebbels, including using communism as a scapegoat/enemy of the state to consolidate power just as soon as they had a Republican back in the White House (Eisenhower in 1952).
Another Hitler tactic learned by the GOP was the use of the smear. Hitler advised telling a damaging lie about an "enemy," then repeating it over and over, no matter what proof may be offered to counter it. The GOP poured an unprecedented amount of money into the 1936 campaign of their candidate Alf Landon. The party launched what was then dubbed the "nationwide selling campaign strategy." To do this, observed political writer Ralph D. Casey in 1937, the party was showered with the money and vigilant efforts of "a small but determined group of businessmen." Casey says the campaign was designed to be "an intensive, subtle, highly-organized salesmanship drive to unsell President Roosevelt and to sell Governor Landon and his highly-advertised common sense." [You have to hand it to the GOP for single-mindedness: theyre still using the same buzzwords - "common sense," et al. - after 65 years!].
The GOP "sales team" identified several key points of attack, which they have used with almost no variation in every campaign since, whether appropriate or not.
* Accuse opposition of overspending
* Accuse opposition of supporting "big government"
* Identify a bogeyman - usually the communists and/or liberals [wonder who they learned that from?], although they have gotten a bit creative and now include environmentalists, anti-gun folks, and scientists on their list of "enemies of freedom"
* Condemn New Deal (i.e., government social programs) as communistic or in some other way unAmerican
* Manipulate statistics to own advantage
* Accuse opposition of waging a class war.
Day in, day out, the GOP attacked FDR, throwing suspicions on everything he did, and said, and on everyone he had ever known. His family dog was not even exempt from political attacks! FDR had nothing but contempt for this self-righteous underhandedness. He denounced the GOP as a pack of "economic royalists" who used the flag and constitution as smokescreens. "I welcome their hatred," he proclaimed.
It was the GOP that started the bane of our current system: paid political ads. In the 1930s, these were called "radio spots." It was in the ugly election of 1936 that the first conservative "talk show" was set up. These programs were created expressly as outlets for GOP propaganda. "No political party has ever excelled the businesslike effectiveness of the Republicans in the distribution of their party propaganda," observes Casey.
In the 1936 election, farmers and ranchers were courted by Republicans who shamelessly praised them for their "All-Americanism" a "rugged individualism." At the same time, of course, the same Republicans were supporting the right of bankers to foreclose on farms and ranches and opposing efforts to provide farm relief. Even the usually non-politically-oriented "Variety" magazine condemned the ruthless GOP campaign machine. "Political parties are being reduced to merchandize which can be exchanged for votes in accordance with a well-conceived marketing plan, taking stock of income levels, race, local problems, exactly as does a commercial sponsor. This differs not one whit from the tactics employed by any corporation.
To their credit, Americans in the 1930s were not as easily swayed by propaganda as they apparently are today. They were grateful to FDR for having placed the interests of the common man first and corporations second, for taking steps to make life less stressful and uncertain through the construction of safety nets such as relief and social security. In the end, despite the estimated over 170 million press releases spit out by the GOP and the countless millions it spent, the party could not buy its way into the White House. . Instead, FDR was given an earned vote of confidence by the American people to whom he devoted the last decade of his life. Landon lost big time, winning just two states (Maine and Vermont, which are both making up for this lapse today). Three days before he was elected, FDR said, "I should like to have it said of my first administration that in it the forces of selfishness and of lust for power met their match. I would like to have it said of my second administration that in it these forces have met their master."
How I wish he had been right.
swdpfls
scary isnt it?
Mike that is scary too!
I had a thought today...what if the Bush Pig uses Martial Law after this election because Americans start revolting against them because of another stolen election!!!!
They're setting us up for it. The polls are all in favor of the democrats right now, but that could be part of their manipulations of our feelings!! Americans will know it was stolen and then will hit the streets in protest....and then.....BAMMO!...they attack us and declare Martial Law!!
I hate them.
